I must admit I'm new to the Snarky Puppy bandwagon, not really giving the crew a listen until a good friend put me on. However, now that I've heard them, I'm hooked. Lucky for me, I joined at the right time, as the jazzy soul super group is soon to release their stellar live set Family Dinner. "Something," one of the standouts from the set, features national treasure Lalah Hathaway on vocal duties, and she kills it. From taking on the traditional R&B at the beginning of the song to scatting her way through the funky bridge, she handles her own in the room full of heavyweights. But then, around the 6:20 mark, the singer just plain shows out and shows off. Hitting two notes at the same. damn. time. (yes, you read that correctly), she effectively harmonizes with herself -- a feat that makes even the musicians in the room stand up and take notice. If you want more from where the goodness that is "Something" came from, be sure to grab your copy of Family Dinner from the Ropeadope Records store when it drops tomorrow.
