Will 'You' Go 'Crazy' For Dungeonesse?

What do you get when you take an indie rock guitarist/singer and pair her with a retro pop producer? The answer is Dungeonesse, a duo comprising Jenn Wasner (of Wye Oak) and Jon Ehrens (of White Life), whose sound falls somewhere between the new wave-y synths of Body Language, the forward-thinking R&B of Solange (as produced by Dev Hynes), with the allure of someone like Jessie Ware. A winning combination we are sure you will agree. The pair released their self-titled debut back in April, and, although I've so far only heard the projects's three-track sampler, I'm already eager to hear more. First single "Drive You Crazy" is a frenetic collision of R&B vocals and pop sensibilities that should get feet tapping and heads nodding while "Shucks," musically at least, would have been right at home on Solange's True, with its cool, soulful vocals and bright, breezy production. The final cut "Nightlife" is the icing on the cake. Taking it back to the late-'80s/early-'90s it's a slow and sultry banger with a great vocal from Wasner.
