Patra Still Sounds 'Sweet'

Since reappearing on a red carpet in late 2011 (seemingly conjured up, Beetlejuice style, by Jay-Z on Lenny Kravitz's "Boongie Drop" just days before), '90's dancehall queen Patra has been on a quiet grind working on the upcoming Patra, The Continuation album. While previous leaks showed she still had the raunch and rapid-fire delivery we loved, her latest release "Sweet Reggae Music" reintroduces us to her less famous singing voice, which remains lovely if unremarkable, but perfectly suited to the medium. While the production on this mellow cut is reminiscent of Bob Marley's "Natural Mystic," thematically, it's all "Trenchtown Rock" with its message that reggae music is the cure to everything ailing the world. Until someone provides definitive proof to the contrary, we're inclined to agree.
