Mark de Clive-Lowe & The Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra Take Us To 'Heaven'

While Mark de Clive-Lowe's music (whether it be original material, production work for others or remixes) always gets major rotation on my iPod, it's his collaboration with The Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, Take The Space Trane, that has, somewhat surprisingly, been keeping my ears busy of late. I'm by no means a big jazz fan, at least of the straight up, instrumental variety, and I usually prefer it accompanied by a heavy dose of soul and vocals, but MdCL's latest release has captured my heart and my ears. I find myself listening to it at work, relaxing at home, in the car, basically wherever and whenever I can. It's difficult to pick my favorite cut on the album, but if I had to choose it would be "Heaven," a track Mark originally recorded with vocalist Bembe Segue for his 2005 album, Tide's Arising, and incidentally my favorite track on that album, too. I wasn't sure how well it would translate into a big band instrumental, but I was very pleasantly surprised once I pressed play. The Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra's horn segment takes over from Bembe's original vocal, bringing the track to life. Take a listen to our exclusive premiere of the track below, courtesy of Mark's label Tru Thoughts, and keep an ear out for the full album, which is released February 4th (5th in the US).
