DMV Bouncers: Celebrate Inauguration With The DC Creative Community At 'To Sir, With Love'

Inauguration fever will once again hit the Washington, DC area as we celebrate the second inauguration of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on Monday, January 21st. That day is coincidentally Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which already meant a three-day weekend and MLK weekend parties that have now morphed into inauguration weekend fêtes. I've already gotten more invites to suspect parties and overpriced "balls" than I can shake my hips at, but there are a few choice events that will be worth checking out and won't have you using your bill money to pay to get in. One such event is To Sir, With Love: A DC Creatives Inauguration Salon that will be taking place on Sunday, January 20th at Montserrat House in Washington, DC. Taking its cues from the Sidney Poitier film To Sir, With Love, the '60's-themed event is the brainchild of Risikat "Kat" Okedeyi of Lil SoSo Productions and many members of the local creative community, including myself, are on the host committee. The evening will feature DJ sets by John Murph, DJ Stylus and Jahsonic and live performances by Kiyem Ade, Ne'a Posey and Zo! featuring Debórah Bond. But that winning entertainment lineup isn't all, there will be lots of food and special inauguration-inspired cocktails and libations courtesy of Crown Royal, Don Julio and Ciroc. It's gonna be a stone gas, honey -- wait, that's the wrong decade -- nonetheless, this event is going to be a fabulous, fun and affordable way to celebrate inauguration with a cool, creative twist. Tickets are being sold exclusively via Eventbrite or simply hit the bounce to find a handy dandy ticket order form. And you'll want to hurry to get your tickets because space is limited and they're selling fast!
