Back in February, Oakland-based singer 1-O.A.K. quietly dropped what would become one of my favorite releases of 2012, Special Request. Though he had appeared on songs of other artists, the self-produced EP provided him a perfect introduction as an artist who could stand on his own. On his follow-up EP, Lovelorn, he hands the production reigns over to producer and fellow The Honor Roll member Trackademicks and the result is yet another strong outing for 1-O.A.K. The two take on the music of Wham!, The Cure, The Smiths, Go West and LCD Sound System on this EP of covers. Available for free download , the album provides a quick walk down memory lane that stays true to the classics, while also adding a contemporary spin to them. Check out what these Bay Area artists have been cooking up after the bounce. And with Lovelorn being available for free download, it feels like Christmas has came early.
