Get A Closer Look At Nicolay With The Hot At Nights

To say that I enjoyed Nicolay's City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya would be more than an understatement since the album served as a soundtrack to every moment for several months following its 2009 release. My fascination with the LP was largely due to my growing desire to travel to Japan in the very near future, but mostly came as the result of my love of Nicolay instrumentals. Well after linking up with the North Carolina-based jazz trio The Hot At Nights for eight tracks of live arrangements on the Shibuya Session EP, Nic earned another six months of constant rotation on my iPod. You would think that after obsessing over both projects for the better part of a year that I would be first in line for the show in Chicago, but I didn't make it out thanks to obligations to the job that will hopefully allow me to save enough for my trip to the Far East. Fortunately for me, and the rest of y'all that didn't get a chance to catch live renditions from Shibuya, The Conscious Tip caught up with Nicolay after a show in Kansas City for a Q&A session. Stream below for shots of Nic and company playing their little hearts out along with the Dutch artist's thoughts on fame, drawing inspiration from Prince and J Dilla and the setting of the forthcoming, Shibuya 3. Let me know when the new solo project is coming, Nic. I'll be creating space on my iPod in the mean time.
