You'll 'Wanna' Hear What J. Period's Done To This Michael Jackson Classic

If he were alive today, Michael Jackson would be celebrating his 54th birthday. While it's still feels weird to acknowledge the King of Pop is no longer with us, it's comforting to know that we have decades of classic music to further enjoy. One of the forces making sure that the music stays fresh is DJ J. Period, who has previously partnered with Spike Lee for his BK Loves MJ events with his Man or the Music series of mixtapes. Unfortunately, the BK Loves MJ event didn't happen this year. As a sweet consolation, though, J. Period issued this special remix of one of Michael's first solo hits, "I Wanna Be Where You Are." Using previously unreleased vocal takes from the original studio sessions, J. Period has created a version that not only highlights Michael's dynamite vocal, but also emphasizes the soulful bass and the delicate flute and strings of the original. As we celebrate the man and the legend today, J. Period has issued a rework worthy of music royalty.
