'Push Thru' With Talib Kweli, Curren$y & Kendrick Lamar

Possessing a strong work ethic would have to be best way to describe Talib Kweli. Lyrical genius and commanding performer would work, too, but one might argue that his overall greatness should be attributed to his steady grind. If he's not touring, he's promoting artists on his Blacksmith label. If a new project with pop collective Idle Warship isn't on the horizon, then a new solo album is around the corner. Well in true grind time fashion, the BK emcee is already teasing the masses with new tracks from his forthcoming album, Prisoner of Conscious. And what better way to break out of that conscious emcee prison than to hit impossible-to-please rap nerds with some brow-raising features? Curren$y and Kendrick Lamar assist Kweli on the S1-produced track, "Push Thru." I've never been much of a Curren$y, fan but he almost made it through an entire verse without bragging on his expensive weed habit so I can applaud him for that. I know it wasn't easy. Kweli manages to hold his own with the two young guns while showing that he can still pack a punch as an veteran in the game. The show stealing verse would have to go to Kendrick Lamar who manages to outshine his peers on any feature as of late. So at the end of the day we get a track with three emcees doing precisely what we expect from them. I can't even say that it's a bad thing, though. Now I seriously doubt that Prisoner of Conscious will be replacing Black Star or Reflection Eternal in our CD changers (I'm still old school), but it sounds like it is shaping up to be a nice addition to an already solid body of work.
