D'Angelo fever may have cooled down after he wowed European audiences -- and the rest of us worldwide who saw the videos online and heard the bootlegs -- during his short but oh-so-sweet comeback tour earlier this year, but it's about to heat back up with the announcement of his first US tour date at this summer's Essence Music Festival. Not only will D'Angelo be performing his first concert on US soul in a decade, but he will be headlining the opening night of the Essence Music Fest on Friday, July 6th. I think that every music lover who wasn't sure what to do that weekend after this July 4th has suddenly found direction and purpose. Lord knows that I am making my travel plans to be a firsthand witness to this history-making event. This announcement of D'Angelo at this year's EMF is kinda overshadowing all of the other artists on the three-day festival's bill, but this year's talent lineup is nothing short of spectacular with many SoulBounce faves on tap. Mary J. Blige, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Eric Roberson, Teedra Moses, Kindred the Family Soul, SWV, Goapele, Marsha Ambrosius, and Melanie Fiona are but a few of the performers scheduled to appear. Peep the entire artist roster after the bounce, and make plans to be at this year's Essence Music Festival if you haven't already done so. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to see what Southwest is talkin' bout.
