For the most part, I consider myself a Ne-Yo fan. His first two albums, In My Own Words and Because of You, still remain in steady rotation 'round these parts. However, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that his work as of late has left me less than impressed. I'm all for my favorites exploring other sounds, but to say that I'm patiently waiting for him to move past this electronic dance sound would be an understatement to say the least. Judging by his latest video to hit the innanets, I'll be waiting for a minute. "Burnin' Up" was created as the theme song for Malibu Red, Ne-Yo's partnership with Malibu Rum. In the video, we see Shaffer vying hard for the attention of a curvy (yet rude) female. I guess anger begats serious attraction because after a run-in backstage, he just can't get her off his mind, even with the tons of other beautiful women in the room. I don't completely hate the song, but it definitely made me miss "Because of You" and "Crazy" Ne-Yo. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past and not as open-minded as I thought, but "Burnin' Up" left me feeling lukewarm.
