'Get Free' With Major Lazer & Amber Coffman

Though their collaborative effort Major Lazer has been quiet since their 2009 release Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do (outside of their EP releases Lazers Never Die and Original Don, of course), DJ/producers Diplo and Switch have found themselves in high demand. From Diplo giving an Usher an assist on his latest single "Climax" and even making Chris Brown sound hard on "Look at Me Now" to Switch helping Beyoncé bastardize revamp their own hit "Pon de Floor," the guys have been mighty busy. That's why it's great to see them returning to their own dancehall-tinged project once again. But whereas Guns was filled with sounds tailored to incite a riot on the dance floor, their latest single "Get Free" (which the group is offering up for free here) is a much more subdued affair. Amber Coffman, of Dirty Projectors fame, contributes vocals to the surprisingly introspective track and it slowly grooves along. It's lyric video is reflective of the mood as it shows their animated cyborg mascot as he floats through various backgrounds, including flying geese, shooting stars, and drifting clouds. There's no word on whether or not a new album or EP will follow this release, but the crew is going on a tour that will take them through Europe (and even land them stateside a few times).
