Melanie Fiona Shows NYC What ‘The MF Life’ Is All About

Last night, New York City caught the first glimpse of that spring/summer feeling and Melanie Fiona‘s The MF Life. The warmest night of 2012 so far set the scene and brought a room full of industry insiders, bloggers, fans, and friends together to preview Melanie’s sophomore studio album under the roof of the magical house that Jimi Hendrix built, Electric Lady Studios. While attendees, including Love & Hip Hop reality TV series constant and music industry vet Rich Dollaz, mixed and mingled, Melanie entered and quickly introduced us to what may be one of the best R&B albums of the year.

From that moment on, the night became about the music and the love that Melanie poured into the candlelit room, as she greeted each guest with a heart stamp; similar to the tattoo on her left wrist and the heart seen on The MF Life cover art. “My tattoo symbolizes courage and strength…I’m passing out courage and strength to you tonight,” Melanie shared.

From the No I.D.-produced anthem “This Time,” which starts off the album and features J. Cole, to the hard hitting rock-flared “Watch Me Work,” The MF Life manages to cover a variety of sounds yet maintain an unexpected level of soulfulness. Showcasing Melanie’s vocal strengths and featuring production from the likes of the incredible Salaam Remi and Jack Splash, The MF Life is poised to stand strong this year as a solid R&B record in what seems to be a pop-driven mainstream industry.

Standout tracks include “Wrong Side of a Love Song,” “I Been That Girl” written by Drake, “Running” featuring Nas, and the Get Lifted era-reminiscent John Legend duet “L.O.V.E.” Hear all the goodness for yourself when The MF Life drops on Tuesday, March 20th.
