Swedish singer Melo first made his way onto my radar about seven years ago when the compilation, Inside Scandinavia Vol. 2 landed on my desk. Featured on two cuts, it was hard to ignore the soulful harmonies coming from this blue-eyed Swede. After dropping his 2008 debut, Off My Chest, things seemed to get quiet on his end. Though I've been regularly trolling the innanets in hope of uncovering news of new music, save for a few tracks here and there with frequent collaborator house/dance producer Rasmus Faber, I haven't had much luck in finding more from Melo. That is until this morning when a new track from Turkey-born/Stockholm-based drummer Ikiz caught my attention. Featuring vocals from none other than Melo, I felt giddy like a kid on Christmas morning as I waited for the download to complete. I was definitely not disappointed with this slow burn of a tune as Melo delivers a vocal one-two punch as he pours his heart out to his love. Not that Ikiz's drumming is anything to thumb your nose at, though. Quiet and understated, the Los Angeles Music Academy-trained percussionist creates a wonderful musical wave for Melo's voice to coast on. If the rest of Ikiz's debut solo album, Checking In, is anything like this, then music fans are definitely in for a treat.
