2011 was an important year for a myriad of reasons. While it saw many things come to pass, it was most notably a year of civil unrest and protest. From the Occupy Movement to Troy Davis to the debates over gay marriage, it was the year for the people to be heard across the world. Visual artist Tatyana Fazlalizadeh was inspired by these events and created her art series Get Angry. As an extension of that series, the enterprising Ms. Fazlalizadeh enlisted DJ extraodinaire Rich Medina to create a mixtape inspired by her work and the events. The mixtape is a hit factory of hip-hop and soul protest music from the likes of Syl Johnson, Gil Scott-Heron, Bilal, and J. Dilla. Even better is that the mix comes with a PDF booklet featuring the artwork that inspired it. If you're looking for music that will be just as thought-provoking as it is head nod-worthy, then this one is for you. Take a listen to the stream below and then make sure to download this one to your collection.
