EMiL Certainly Isn't 'Deadwood'

2012 looks set to be a great year for British soul music, what with Michael Kiwanuka beating off stiff competition from the likes of Frank Ocean and fellow Brit Lianne La Havas to win the BBC Sound of 2012, and highly anticipated albums from Tawiah, Alice Russell & Quantic, Omar and The Brand New Heavies -- as well as the aforementioned Kiwanuka and La Havas -- rumored to drop. While those familiar names have the excitement levels cranked up to the max, it's nice when you stumble across relative newcomers who have something good to share. Step forward Londoner EMiL whose sound has been described as a cross between Frank Ocean and Aloe Blacc. If I'm honest I can't see where that description came from, but if his first single "Deadwood" is anything to go by then I will certainly be checking for more from the talented singer/songwriter/guitarist. The video for the track can be seen below and is a pretty straightforward affair, featuring EMiL on acoustic guitar with a lady trying out various dance moves around him. It certainly caught my attention. "Deadwood" will get an official release in March, so let's hope a full album isn't too far behind.
