If you are anything like me, then you've no doubt been basking in the afterglow of the first bits and pieces of footage from D'Angelo's European tour opener in Stockholm, Sweden that are surfacing on the net. We brought you a look at the man in action earlier when we posted video of him and his band, The Testimony, jamming out on "Chicken Grease." Don't be fooled into thinking this is an all-oldies, greatest hits tour, however. D'Angelo is singing new material on this outing, and the audience at Filadelfiakyrkan enjoyed the world premiere of these songs. Lucky ducks they were, but through the magic of YouTube the rest of the world population who wasn't in attendance now get to enjoy these new songs, too. Let me just say that listening to this fresh material coupled with the visuals of D live and in living color is an experience not easily summed up into words. I'm not only tripping off of how good the man sounds, but it's as if he didn't take a decade-and-some-change long break. Watching these clips of him performing the Prince-esque "The Charade" and church funky "Sugar Daddy" make it ever so clear that his return is real. It's happening. It's here. It's incredible. If these are two of the songs that D'Angelo will be including on James River, then most everyone else with an album coming out this year can pretty much tuck their 2012 in.
