Jose James Gets All The Way 'Live' At The Triple Door

There's nothing quite like seeing your favorite performer live, especially when they know how to put on a great show. Jose James is a performer who always electrifies when he's on stage. Because he realizes that everyone can't always get out to see his shows, he's dropped a three-song live set from his December 6th performance at Seattle's The Triple Door featuring live renditions of his songs "Code," "It's All Over Your Body," and "Trouble." He and his band (comprised of Takuya Kuroda on trumpet, Kris Bowers on keys, Solomon Dorsey on bass, and Nate Smith on drums) bring down the house. The first track, an intro that then leads up to "Code," is so great that you don't even notice that it's 11 minutes long, and they take "It's All Over Your Body" to new heights. Of course, he especially brings the funk on the rendition of his latest single "Trouble" that closes out the set. Dorsey lays down a funky, Sly & the Family Stone-like bass groove that lets Jose and the rest of the guys play around effortlessly. I don't know about you, but this is really making me anticipate his upcoming album No Beginning, No End, which is set to drop early next year. If you want to see Mr. James up close and personal, there are still a few more opportunities this month, including a show tonight at New Parish in Oakland. For those who can't make it out, check out the live set below. Oh, did I forget to mention that Jose is giving these gems away for free via his SoundCloud page? Be sure to snatch them up while you can. [Photo: Jan Vandevyver]
