Common Shares His 'Dreams' With The People of Haiti

If you guys were still in your post-Turkey Day coma, you probably missed everyone's favorite raptor (that's a rapper-turned-actor) Common on CNN's documentary special COMMON DREAMS: A CNN Freedom Project Documentary, that aired last night. If you'll recall, Common recently filmed his video for his single "Sweet" in Haiti. While there, he and CNN got to see Haiti's Restaveks firsthand. "Restavek," a term that refers both to the Hatian tradition that intitially began to help educate rural children as well as the children themselves, has become forced labor that subjects children to work long hours and denies them access to education. The documentary follows Common as he meets with the children involved, as well as those who call themselves their "guardians." It also shines light on the Restavek Freedom Foundation, whose mission it is to end this practice and give the children access to an education and a better life. The documentary and trip is a part of CNN's "The CNN Freedom Project: Ending Modern Day Slavery" initiative which seeks, by covering instances of slavery in modern times, to show and give a voice to those who suffer under these conditions. You can press play below to get a look at the doc (I advise that you keep a few tissues handy, as this is some pretty heartbreaking stuff). If you want to know more about the project or get more information about the documentary, visit The Freedom Project's blog to stay informed and see how you can get involved.
