Afro-Blue 'Need' To Win 'The Sing-Off'

There is some strong talent on this season of The Sing-Off, but none of the other groups come close to the making the magic that Afro-Blue make every single week. They are nothing short of amazing from one performance to the next, and on this past Monday's episode they flexed their vocal skills once again on two songs from the rock and country genres. Whereas their performance of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "American Girl" was one of the weakest to hear the judges tell it, they came back later in the show to counter that with one of their strongest bits all season with their take on Lady Antebellum's GRAMMY Award-winning hit, "Need You Now." Afro-Blue transformed the lovelorn original into three minutes of praise and worship that anyone listening to them sing could feel. Not a dry eye was left on that stage when these young people were through and once again they garnered a standing ovation from at least two judges (apparently Ben Folds is contractually obligated to remain in a seated position). Afro-Blue did find themselves in the bottom two with early favorites Delilah, but their stroke of musical genius on "Need You Now" definitely saved them from elimination and moved them through to next week and the top five where we're looking for them to shine like the stars they are once again.
