Bounce-Worthy: Zara McFarlane

One label whose output I try to keep an eye on is Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings. The label, who introduced us to the likes of José James and Ben Westbeech, has also been responsible for opening my ears to Tawiah, Floating Points and Eric Lau with their excellent Brownswood Bubblers series.

The latest signee to the Brownswood camp is 28-year-old London-based jazz/soul vocalist Zara McFarlane who has already gained attention from jazz heads in the know with her self-released Until Tomorrow EP, which she dropped last year. Now signed to Gilles' influential indie label, Zara will be releasing Until Tomorrow as a full album this October. To whet appetites Zara has released the track "Mama Done" as a free download via her Facebook page, which you can hear below. As a bonus you can also check out her collaboration with Jazz Jamaica Allstars and Wesley Lucas on their excellent cover of Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour." If you like your soul sirens with more than a little sprinkling of jazz, then I suggest you give Ms McFarlane a spin. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
