How fitting that Teedra Moses freeleased her fourth mixtape on July 4th, setting off her excited fanbase like human fireworks. The first lady of Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group let loose the 10-track Luxurious Undergrind to her adoring public yesterday afternoon, and it is as close to the magic of Complex Simplicity that we've gotten yet from Moses. Her previous mixtapes have had their highs and lows, but Luxurious Undergrind is on another level from those with tighter production and meaningful lyrical content coupled with Teedra's always-beautiful vocals. Some of these tracks could very well have found a home on her sophomore album, The Young Lioness, and I would not be one bit mad because they are just that good. If songs such as the jazz-funky mid-tempo groove "Another Luvr" or the sweet and sultry "Falling 4 U" didn't make the cut, then I can't wait to hear what did. Teedra continues to explore the dangerous and delightful terrain of relationships and even includes another song for her deceased mother on this collection. I've had this on repeat since yesterday, and, as in love as I am with it, it doesn't appear that I'll stop listening any time soon.
