As the quality of releases seems to be increasing as we progress through the year it's anyone's guess what albums will be deemed the best of 2011. I can say with some certainty that Electric Empire's self-titled debut will figure quite high on my personal list. Although the guys are seriously channeling Stevie Wonder (with a little Donny and Al thrown in for good measure) their songwriting and ear for catchy hooks ensures that rather than sounding like a retro rehash, the album sounds like a collection of timeless soul music that could have been recorded four weeks or four decades ago. Check out their live performance of "Have You Around" below, one of the more up-tempo cuts on the LP, and go grab the album if you havwn't already. You won't be disappointed.
