My Morning Jacket & Erykah Badu Get 'Tyrone' On The Phone

Funk-inspired rock band My Morning Jacket performed several songs from their new release Circuital for the American Express-sponsored Unstaged series in Louisville, KY on Tuesday night. The webcast introducing My Morning Jacket's new album was streamed live on YouTube for those of us who couldn't attend. And to top it off they also performed a few songs with my favorite singer Erykah Badu, including her own in-your-face classic "Tyrone." This is not the first time the group has covered the record live, but it is one of the few times Ms. Badu has joined them onstage for it in what they describe as a "dream come true." Now you may be skeptically saying if it ain't broke why fix it? And I would agree -- unless it's to add the vocal stylings of the band's lead singer Jim James. The blend of Ms. Fat Belly Bella's soul funkiness with MMG's bluesy version of rock star wailing is worth a click on this fan-filmed video. If this charming set is what erupts from their collabo, I wouldn't mind her bringing Jim James, Paul, and Tyrone with her every time she comes around.
