'Yellow' Is JoiStaRR's Color

Now I know it's against the popular vote, but what can I say -- I've never been that much of a Coldplay fan. They're just bland to me. However, performing a memorable cover of a popular entertainer's song can be a bit daunting for any artist. (Right, Keri?) So in April when JoiStaRR released her version of "Yellow," I had to go back and play the Coldplay original to determine which one was better. The song and her video is quite a bit more upbeat and complimentary than the original version. Falling in love is supposed to be a good thing that makes you happy, not feel like taking a morbid walk in the rain. The entertaining and charming clip was directed by the multi-talented MC/actor Heavy D, and you can truly get the feeling of yellow stars shining on a new love. While she croons the lyrics and an all female band rocks out, a mime tells the story of how he fell in love with...well you have to watch the video to see that. JoiStaRR, whose mixtape, Broccoli & Noodles, dropped on May 17th, has a ridiculous list of album credits ranging from Chris Brown to Mary Mary. I'm positive the remaining covers on the mixtape display her knack for making songs her own just as well as this video displays her fun-loving side. Now I'm ready to dance -- and find out where she got those candy colored shoes from, too.
