Don't Get Urban Punk 'Twisted'

As quiet is kept, my favorite singer from season three of American Idol wasn't Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson, but it was the third of the "Three Divas" who had my vote on lock every week: LaToya London. I loved the petite vocalist's spirit, she had stage presence for days, she was professional and well-spoken, and, in my opinion, her performances regularly put her fellow contestants that season to shame. She may have gotten voted off early, but she didn't fall into oblivion like many Idol cast-offs are prone to do. London released her debut album, Love & Life, in 2005 and would go on to star in the touring company of The Color Purple, ending her run as Nettie in the musical just last year. But as one door closes another opens, and now LaToya is ready to begin a new chapter in her story as part of the group Urban Punk.
London has switched her style up and joined veteran hip-hop artist H2O to create Urban Punk whose musical focus is a mash-up of soul, hip hop, and Europop. Don't be afraid, though, London and H2O actually make those three styles work to their advantage as heard on their first single, "Twisted." The catchy song has a rock edge to it with LaToya's soul shining through and H2O dropping a few bars for good measure. I'm definitely intrigued to hear more from Urban Punk after listening to this.
