All's fair in love and war. That being said, the sentiment expressed in the Jackson 5's "The Love You Save" was an easy, but cold one to grasp. Love is a double-edged sword. One capable of turning the most affectionate love birds into callous, spiteful enemies. As a child, the meaning of the words expertly sung by Michael Jackson hadn't yet touched a chord within me. I just knew the music was great, and if my father was excited enough at a gathering, he just might show me the moves one more time.

Looking back after years of fruitful yet failed relationships, stifling my desires to be conniving to those who were especially careless with my heart, this upbeat pop tune was like a revelation to me. "I'm the one you need," pleaded Michael. "Those other guys will put you down
and soon they may succeed," cautioned Jermaine. But it was likely too late. What the heart wants, the heart wants. And what the object of their affections wanted was to not be with them. No matter. In the end, it would be these talented brothers from Indiana who would get the last laugh, breaking hearts and denying many who desired them along the way to their ultimate stardom.
