'Jump Up' With Erykah & Lil Wayne

"I know you want to...jump up in the air and stay there" is the catchy hook of Erykah Badu's "Jump Up In The Air and Stay There," which features Lil Wayne giving a little lyrical love to accent this song with soul supastar Bilal on support vocals. This uptempo single is the first viral leak from Badu's upcoming CD New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, which drops on March 30.
The kaleidoscope images in this vid are simple enough to not distract from the song and it is definitely Bounce-Worthy, but here's hoping that Ms. Badu offers us something a little more next level next time.
Not to insult the lyrical skill of Lil Wayne--he certainly is a skilled freestyler and has some impeccable moments of delivery (my favorite is his participation on Outkast's "Hollywood Divorce")--but, really, his verse and mere presence on this cut is distracting. If you don't have a headache already from the swirly images of the video, by the time his verse comes on a little migraine may kick in, particularly if you aren't a fan of his from the get-go.
Video budgets are most obviously diminishing these days, based on past work we've seen and reviewed from everyone from Jaheim to Rihanna. In this clip, Erykah is most definitely keeping it simple enough so that our focus remains on the music, and there ain't nothing really wrong with that at the end of the day. But this video is most definitely as low budget and simple as you can get. My hope is that Lady Badu's new album is more enticing to listen to than this video is to watch. By the way, where's Bilal?
