Green Tea Is A 'Beautiful Weirdo'

"Rose Colored Glasses," the new single by singer Green Tea from her freshly-released mixtape Beautiful Weirdo, is a funky groove that instantly announces a new turn for the DC-based artist who has been on the scene for some time, making steady strides in indie circles. While past musical efforts by this burgeoning artist could be easily described as formulaic in most instances, Green Tea is letting fans know with this new release that she is fully capable of taking it next level. The title track, "Beautiful Weirdo," is another uptempo joint that is enjoyable and sure to attract new fans, possibly of a younger demographic. With a cameo from Baltimore's lyricist Dri Fish of the duo The 5th L, the jam percolates with energy and asserts keen chemistry between the two artists. But, what's for sure is that, apart from the title track, Green Tea is most loyal to her demographic that is most likely the 25 and up crew who appreciates Maxwell, adores Van Hunt, grooves to Lalah Hathaway and makes babies to Anthony David. Though on promotional materials Green Tea doesn't quite visually pull off the quirky boho image the title Beautiful Weirdo suggests, vocally she is delivering a product that is guaranteed to assure even the most cynical music lover that soul has not died, it is simply progressing to its next chapter. The entire mixtape is a soulful delight.
