I've been aware of Shafiq Husayn for some time now, as well as his latest EP Shafiq En' A Free Ka. I loved his track "Lil' Girl" when I first heard it this Summer. Now that the video for this song has emerged, I am really loving this song even more. Featuring a bevy of beauties who have been sunkissed by the always gorgeous Los Angeles weather, I'm a little salty that I recognize so many faces, yet wasn't included in this musical melange celebrating those who love bronzed skin. But no matter. My face lit up at seeing Erykah Badu, Jay Electronica, Talib Kweli, and Wood Harris make cameos. Fatima's voice adds to the loveliness and enhances the sunny vibe of the song. If anything, this video and track prove once again that there are people willing to tend with care the legacy of Soul music that we all know and love.
