Be Thankful For Nneka's 'Power'

If I had to make a list of things I've been thankful for in 2009, being able to attend the weekly The Roots Present: The Jam at NYC's Highline Ballroom would be right up near the top. The last two weeks were especially powerful, as the fellas pulled out all the stops with guests like Marsha Ambrosius, MC Milk D., I.N.I., Kidz In The Hall, trombonist Jeff Bradshaw and Sierra Leone's own Dry Eye Crew. Unfortunately, the jam sessions have come to an end. However, thanks to the internet, I'm able to show you one of my personal favorites from last week, the pint-sized, pajama-wearing dynamo named Nneka, who drew several standing ovations from the late night crowd. The Nigerian-born singer, whose first album was released in 2005, credits hip hop as one of her major influences. Check out her Wiki page, but first, here's her performance of "V.I.P. (Vagabounds In Power)" live from last week's show. With chops like hers, it's easy to see she'll be hosting her own jam sessions in the near future.
