The affable, gorgeous and multi-talented Jill Scott is gearing up for Emmy season by, well, not giving the possibility of an nomination for her work as the protagonist in No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Precious. After getting her high hopes for a Grammy for her debut album Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 and being somewhat devastated after losing, she's more grounded about award nominations and wins. In a podcast recorded for the Los Angeles Times, she says:
"...If it happens, celebrate. If it doesn't, celebrate."
But more importantly, she's thrilled to be a part of such a
groundbreaking and entertaining show that presents a more diverse image
of Africa, Botswana specifically. And she's proud to be portraying a
(lamentably) atypical character whose uncompromisingly and
culturally-minded in a positive way, sexual without being defined by
her sexuality, and decidedly non-violent. Regardless of how the Emmy
race ends, Jilly from Philly consistently proves that her projects are
definitely worth celebrating. [LAT]
