Seal Makes a 'Change,' Gets A Little 'Soul'

seal_soul_cover.jpg Seal isn't exactly known for being a soul singer, but he's hoping to change that perception with his new CD due out next month. The aptly titled Soul will feature Seal tackling an album's worth of classic soul tunes (from the likes of James Brown, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Ben E. King and others) with his signature flavor. You can get a taste of what he's bringing to the table on the project's first single, the umpteenth remake of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come." I've given this a few listens and honestly I can't get into Seal's version. It's a little too bland for my tastes. As far as remakes go, give me Leela James' or Wayne Brady's recent renditions any day. Now they bring the soul that this song requires. Seal? Not so much. Listen to his take on "A Change is Gonna Come" below for yourself to see if Seal has enough soul for you. Peep the music video and album's tracklist after the bounce.
