SoulBounce has bemoaned the lack of grown man/woman R&B time and time again. We're not mad at the Chris Brown's, Rihanna's and Trey Songz's of the world (OK, maybe we are), but for those of us over the age of 13 with actual taste in music, they're not gonna cut it. Thankfully there are still adult artists to be had out there, who are recording good music despite the fact that they don't get the same type of press/budget/mainstream love that the youngin's do. That's where we come in, and that's why an artist such as Avant is still in the game. He's down with a new label and will drop Avant on October 28th. It's interesting that he is signed to Capitol Records, which is increasingly becoming the place where good artists go only to never be heard from again (think Faith Evans, Van Hunt). Hopefully he'll have better luck than they did. If the first single "When It Hurts" is any indication, then he may not take an L. This is a love song that will fit nicely into Quiet Storm playlists, and if the remaining songs on Avant are this good, then the CD may fit nicely into your collection, too. [BB]
