Lalah Hathaway's 'Self-Portrait' To Be Unveiled This June

LalahSelfPortraitsmall.jpgFans of soul music, rejoice!  After four years away, Lalah Hathaway is back on the scene this spring with a new CD on the revitalized Stax Records imprint entitled Self-Portrait

According to Bebo.com, the lead single from the new effort, which is scheduled to drop June 3rd, will be the mid-tempo "Let Go." The single has her best friend Rahsaan Patterson on background vocals and Rex Rideout, who also produced Lalah's tribute song to the late, great Luther Vandross, "Forever, For Always, For Love" from 2004's Outrun the Sky, on production.

For those not familiar with Lalah (although if you're a regular of SoulBounce, I'm really, really hoping that you are), yes, she's the daughter of the soul legend Donny Hathaway, but also a velvet-voiced soulstress in her own right, giving us such hits over the years as "Heaven Knows," "Let Me Love You," "Baby Don't Cry" and my personal favorite, "I'm Coming Back."

Says Lalah: "...this is the first record that I've ever worked on from start to
finish including developing the concept, styling, the sequence and
selection of the songs, the musicians, the producers, the marketing,
the way it sounds--everything. That's why I call it Self-Portrait
because it's my fifth album but it feels like my first.
