I'm sure that most of us can remember the first time that we saw Jill Scott perform live (and for those who haven't seen Jilly live yet, please smack yourselves upside the head right quick for me). I've gone on record saying how fantabulous Jill is live (as has ill Mami), and I've been attending her concerts since shortly after Who Is Jill Scott? Word and Sounds Vol. 1 dropped in 2000. I was enthralled by my first Jill Scott concert experience and how good she was. But I shouldn't have been surprised because by that time Jill was already a seasoned performer. She had shared stages with The Roots and performed her poetry at various open mics in Philly. This clip from 1999 recently surfaced on the net and shows early Jill tearing the roof off of a coffeehouse with an effortless version of "He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat)." I can't imagine if I would've been at this show and witnessed Jill's star being born. Amazing.
