What would SoulBounce's Top 100 Soul/R&B countdown be without the King of R&B, Bobby Brown? Coming in at #98 is his highness with his number one hit "My Prerogative."

After quitting the security of New Edition and releasing a mediocre debut album, many questioned if Bobby had made the right move. In 1988 he released Don't Be Cruel and the single "My Prerogative" was Brown's ballsy, brash and brazen answer to all the gossip folks who questioned his decisions and how he was living his life. He was doing what he wanted to do and after hitting number one on the Pop and R&B charts with this track, he proved that he was doing a damn good job at it.

This was Bobby Brown at his pinnacle of success. Don't Be Cruel went 7X platinum and was the perfect storm of New Jack Swing dance tracks and classic slow jams. Subsequent to this, he still charted with a few songs, but by the '90s his career and life took a downturn. Reminisce if you will on Bobby pre-Whitney, pre-drug habit, pre-jail, pre-baby-mama-drama and when he was really just being Bobby Brown.
