It's been a hot minute since we've done a Battle of the Beats, so this week we're bringing it back and not coming wack with a neo-soul diva showdown. In this corner we have newcomer Chrisette Michele and in the other corner we have Jill Scott, and we're putting their songs entitled "Golden" up against each other. I know, it's so wrong, it's right.
Jill Scott's "Golden" was the lead single to her album Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 and became an upbeat anthem for living your best life (as Oprah would say). The chorus was catchy and the phrase "living my life like it's golden" found its way into everyone's lexicon. On the flip side, Chrisette's "Golden" is an album cut that hasn't penetrated the culture like Jill's song, but it needs to. This ode to the bygone days of real love and committed relationships is a lush, absolutely gorgeous ballad. If Def Jam has any sense they will release this as a single and give this sista's debut disc the push that it needs, but I digress.
Personally, I love both songs for different reasons, so this is a tough choice for me. But I'm gonna have to give my girl Jilly the edge. Who doesn't want to live their life like it's golden? Is this gonna be a landslide victory for Jill or does young Chrisette have any chance whatsoever at a vote or two? Have a listen and then have your say in the comments section.
