"It feels so good to be back again." Those are the first words that Ledisi sings on her brand new single "High," and we must admit it's good to hear from her. We haven't gotten a proper full-length set from the soulful songstress since 2014's The Truth (though her 2015 EP, The Intimate Truth, was indeed amazing). Now it seems that Led is ready to bless us with some new-new and we are most definitely ready to receive it.
"High," which was premiered by our peoples at Okayplayer, is a perfect reintroduction to the diva. Slinky synth keys are backed by the slight stutter of hi-hats as booming horns add the perfect accent to what she has in store. Led uses the production to express how high newfound love is making her feel. After giving us a confident recap of what she's been up to ("last year was a good for your girl"), she gets down to proper business. "I'm tired of being broken," she sings. "I'm talkin' 'bout love, real love / You the only thing that get me up / I'm high." From there, she brings out the fireworks, layering vocals and stacking harmonies to create something truly magical like only she can and merging jazz, gospel, hip-hop and R&B together in the process. Did we mention how much we really missed the talent that is Ledisi?
As we mentioned, Ledisi looks to be coming with something new in the near future. She hasn't released any details about what exactly her new project will be, but if "High" is any indication, we're in for a treat.
