BJ The Chicago Kid Lets The Groove Take Over For 'Turnin' Me Up'

BJ the Chicago Kid has been putting in that work to make sure we support his debut project In My Mind. He needn't be worried, though. Aside from his impressive track record of singles and mixtapes, he already got us hooked with album teasers like "Church," "Resume," "Woman's World" and "Love Inside." And his surprise D'Angelo tribute was a satisfying bonus. But BJ is taking no chances, dropping yet another gem into our laps with "Turnin' Me Up" ahead of the album's February 19th release.

Though the singer usually has plenty to say, lyrics are minimal here. In fact, this could almost pass for an instrumental. But don't worry, BJ's soulful croon is all over this track, begging his baby to "keep on turnin' me up." Amidst a funk-infused smoky backdrop of drums, bass, organ and horns, BJ proceeds to seduce us with his sticky falsetto. Brimming with enough nostalgic charm to have the Uncles and Aunties scooting you aside so they can "show you how it's done," the old school groove takes its time and allows the instrumentals to simmer in our ears. The end result is so good, it lingers long after the song is done.

We have no doubt that BJ's latest will have you bouncin' through this weekend and beyond. Speaking of the weekend, if you're planning something a little more hedonistic, scroll down 'cause these "Church" remixes are definitely worth a listen. For the first "REMIX," BJTCK enlists the help of fellow Chi-Town players Jeremih and Lil Durk before jetting to Cali for a "WESTCOAST REMIX" with Ty Dolla $ign and Anderson .Paak. Like the original, both remixes are sure to appeal to your inner heathen. You can pre-order In My Mind right now with instant downloads of five tracks.
