While we wait with bated breath for the upcoming Lifetime movie train wreck Angela Bassett-directed biopic that Bobbi Kristina thought she was going to be in, let's celebrate something that pushes Whitney Houston's legacy in a better light. It's truly undeniable that Houston was an incredible force with her voice, and in a live setting it was no doubt kicked up to massive high voltage. Those who missed out on Houston during her prime live years are going to be in luck as Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, announced plans to release Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances, a CD/DVD collection that will highlight the best of Mama Nippy's TV and stage performances. This will be the first-ever live collection released from Houston's camp, and if you think it's something hastily thrown together, just exhale and shoop shoop to the good news that all the performances have undergone state-of-the-art restoration and remastering. Alright now.

Of course without shock or awe, Clive Davis, Houston's longtime promoter and executive producer is one of the masterminds behind the project as he made an appearance on TODAY this morning to wax poetic about Houston and the upcoming collection. What's also special is the collection has the Houston family's blessing and input right down to Mama Cissy Houston, so that should ease some of the cash cow mooing you thought you heard in the distance. This collection is nothing short of a labor of love for all those involved, and from the sound it of it's a fitting tribute that reinforces Houston's peerless vocal prowess. Seriously, Legacy Recordings isn't playing around with this collection as it will include such iconic performances like Houston's 1983 debut on The Merv Griffin Show where she put a killing on "Home" from The Wiz, her often imitated-never-duplicated reading of "The Star Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV in 1991 and her duet performance of "When You Believe" with Mariah Carey at the 71st Academy Awards in 1999, among many others.

Though it's only been two years since Houston tragic passing, her music still endures, and with this collection it is surely a fabulous chapter in Houston's life to revisit and reminiscence on. Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances will be out November 10th, and if you're already bought and sold, you can pre-order the collection over at Houston's official fanpage and receive a special fan package as a free gift.
