Much of the musical world is awaiting Jazmine Sullivan’s forthcoming third studio album, Reality Show, with bated breath. Thus far she has given us “Dumb,” a preview of “Stupid Girls” and “Mona Lisa,” along with a look behind the scenes of the making of the soulful project. Well this week she’s kicking this release party up a notch by dropping the heavy ballad “Forever Don’t Last.”

The acoustic-driven tune finds Sullivan’s strongest vocal performance of this era hogging the spotlight as she sings another sad love song. Apparently some fool let the young Philadelphia songbird slip out of their hands just when she was ready to hold them down for the long run. “And I tried to believe that we could make it. But trying don’t work, so I’ll just have to face that forever doesn’t last too long these days,” she sings, as only she can. Even beyond her vocal prowess, this Sam Cooke-reminiscent song also showcases her impeccable storytelling skill. We’re so glad that Jazmine is back and certainly looking forward to the release of Reality Show.
