Adele Indulges Her Inner Bond Girl In 'Skyfall'

James Bond movie themes have a certain air of nobility about them. The songs are undeniably epic and theatrical, and many end up becoming legendary moments in music history -- think "Diamonds Are Forever" by Shirley Bassey or "Live and Let Die" by Wings and Paul McCartney. I can imagine for a singer, it would be both daunting and be a career highlight to be asked to write and record the theme song for such an iconic movie franchise. Now, English darling Adele gives us the theme song for the latest Bond movie, entitled Skyfall, which not only makes her a new name to add to the list of "Bond girls," but puts her up there with the stellar list of performers who have come before her to fulfill their 007 duties.

"Skyfall" is equally mysterious and dangerous, thanks to backing by a 77-piece orchestra, the gradual building of the track, Adele's evocative vocals and the fittingly dramatic lyrics ("This is the end/Hold your breath and count ten/Feel the earth move and then/Hear my heart burst again"). This is one Bond theme song that comes up to the challenge and then some, solidifying Adele as one of the stand-out vocalists of our time (as if we needed any more convincing). Have a listen to "Skyfall" via the lyric video after the bounce, and let us know if like me, you have no doubt that this will be up there with the classic Bond theme tracks for years to come, and trump those Bond theme songs that didn't quite live up to the title of 007 (yes, I'm looking at you Madonna).
