Applejac Is 'Playin' Favorites' And Winning

You may know SoulBounce fave and fam Applejac primarily as a DJ and remixer, but his resume just got a little longer with the addition of producer and multi-instrumentalist on the recent release of his debut album, Playin' Favorites. Much like Zo!'s ...just visiting series, Applejac dug deep in the crates to find songs that were ripe for the remaking. He dusts off oldies but goodies by a variety of artists such as Steve Arrington ("You Meet My Approval"), Dionne Warwick ("Deja Vu") and even The Beatles ("The Long and Winding Road") and puts them into the very capable hands of singers like Reggie B, Ramona and Rogiers. Applejac does stray from the crate digging with the inclusion of a remake of Little Dragon's "Twice," which is enjoying a second life all of a sudden, this time around sung beautifully by Carmen Rodgers. Bookended by spoken word pieces by The Baldhead Queen, the project also features Tonya Dyson and Shecky's Jazzy Tofu (with Jessica Johnson's "What A Mess" included as a bonus cut on the CD version). I'm hoping that this is the first in a line of many Playin' Favorites compilations. After you listen to the collection and cop the free download, I'm sure you'll agree.
