Carrying much more than just his name (and striking good looks) Seun Anikulapo Kuti has his father's musical legacy deeply rooted. And with this week's release of From Africa With Fury: Rise, Fela's youngest son, who also fronts the legendary Egypt 80 as the elder Kuti did, is showing the world that he has a very distinct voice of his own. In regard to this second album, Seun has been quoted as saying, "I can be more confident in how I express myself, I can say what I want, be as complex as I want," and his first single "Rise" is a brilliant example of this. Singing passionately of not wanting to see his people in the hands of corrupt entities, "Rise" sends out a unifying call that is as beautiful as it is powerful. Both a musician (he plays the saxophone) and a writer, Seun captures the heart and soul of a continent in a way that wherever you are and whatever your struggle may be this music will inspire you.
