Are You 'In The Mood' For Johnny Gill?

Johnny Gill is the latest artist trying to get that old thing back with the release of "In The Mood," the
first track from his upcoming album. It's painfully obvious that Mr. "My, My, My" is trying to
compete with these young whippersnappers in the music game. According to the press release that accompanied this track, Gill
sounds "as contemporary as Usher, Ne-Yo, and today's other chart-topping R&B stars," which is really
code for "My name is Johnny Gill, I just sold my soul to the devil to perform music that sounds like it was
made for Trey Songz. Please don't mind the subtle sheen of my lip balm in the promo pictures." We all
know JG is no stranger to pop R&B (New Edition) or to sweaty grown folks music (LSG), but his
voice is far too rich for the style he is trying to pursue on "In The Mood." Maybe content that digs a little
deeper sonically and emotionally would resonate more with his maturing audience.
