Do You 'Love' Melanie Fiona's Tribute to Chaka Khan?

I am puzzled. I have watched the usually stunning Melanie Fiona's rendition of Grandma Minaj Chaka Khan's "You Got The Love" about five times, trying to figure what's off about the performance. Filmed last year, Fiona sang along with the shoe-kickin' Fantasia, Ledisi, Faith Evans, Ginuwine, and others as part of the United Negro College Fund's Evening of Stars Tribute to Chaka Khan. I don't know, but it's just not working for me. Sure, she's animated. She worked the stage as if fleeing deportation to Canada. Hell, she's even got Chaka's trademark big hair and shapeless dress in full effect. She remembered all the words, but the effortless, fish grease-drenched funk of the original is gone. She took some vocal...risks liberties here, and that is greatly appreciated, but overall it comes off like a performance during the first week of American Idol. Definitely not her best showing. Perhaps a different song would have worked? Maybe it's just me. At any rate, check Melanie and her Keyshia-Coleslaw-on-speed vibes out below.
