No Plan B & The Family Stand Give Us A Fresh Take On Coltrane's 'Naima'

John Coltrane's "Naima," a ballad dedicated to his then wife Juanita Naima Grubbs, is one of his most famous compositions that has gone on to become somewhat of a jazz standard. Coltrane himself recorded several versions and released it on no less than five of his albums, and it has also been covered by the likes of Lonnie Liston Smith and Herbie Hancock. Now No Plan B and The Family Stand can be added to the list with their beautiful take on the song, which features a stunning vocal from The Family Stand frontwoman Sandra St. Victor. I don't listen to much straight ahead jazz, but this is hitting all the right spots.
