Gamble & Huff To Receive Honorary Doctorates
Legendary hit-making duo Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff will receive their first honorary doctor of music degrees from Berklee College of Music during this year's commencement ceremony. The honor marks the first time the creators of the "Sound of Philadelphia" have received honorary degrees together. Gamble also will serve as the commencement speaker at the May 8th ceremony at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. The forces that brought us hits by The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes and Billy Paul, join a long line of music greats such as Quincy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie and Aretha Franklin to be presented with the honor. "To be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the Berklee College of Music for our music career accomplishments is a feeling that goes beyond our wildest dreams," they said in a statement. "We are very humbled andtruly blessed to be chosen to join a list of extraordinary luminaries." As part of Berklee's tradition, students will pay tribute to Gamble & Huff by performing their music in a private concert.
