First Spin, Reggae Riddims
Rox 'Rocks Steady'
A South Londoner with strong connection to her Jamaican roots, Rox shows us she can "Rock Steady" with the greatest of ease. This single from her upcoming, as-yet-untitled album (scheduled to be released sometime in 2010) has a great classic reggae sound that remains immune from a full case of the retro flu by Rox's fresh vocals. She knows just when to dodge a bit out of the predictable during the song, adding some kick with a contemporary and sultry twang that's unabashedly influenced by a variety of styles. The effect is effortlessly smooth and sexy. [H/T: RTR]

We're all over the sixties revival, maybe it's reggae's turn? If there's a musical style long overdue for a reworking, that's it.
